G.U.I. Inter Club Competitions

May 18, 2015

Foyle have started the 2015 G.U.I. Inter Club Match Play Competitions in sparkling form with three Teams through to round three of their respective Competitions.

Ulster Cup Team – Received a bye in round 1 and then had a fine victory in round 2 over Whitehead Golf Club losing 4 – 3 away but came strong in the home leg to win 6 – 1 for a 10 – 4 victory in the tie and will now play  Shandon Golf Club in round three.

Ulster Fourball Team – Played a strong Rossmore Golf Club Team in round 1 recording a 3.5 to 1.5  matches win at Foyle and after a very competitive and close contest in the away leg going down 3-2 for a 5.5 to 4.5 victory.

Round 2 against Greenacres Golf Club proved some what of a long match with the first leg at Greenacres suspended after the course became water logged meaning the home leg at Foyle was played first where we had a 4 – 1 victory to take into the rearranged away leg which culminated in a 4.5 to .5 match win therefore Foyle moved into round three on a comprehensive  8.5  to 1.5  match victory and will now play Loughgall Golf Club.

Fred Daly Team – Played Royal Belfast Golf Club in round 1 where they eased into round 2 after a comfortable victory in round 2 the talented Foyle team once again proved to strong for their opponents Donaghadee Golf Club having recorded a 6 – 1 victory at home eased into round 3 on a 10 – 4 win at the conclusion of the tie and will now play Lisburn Golf Club for a place in round 4.

G.U.I. Qualifiers – Foyle teams are finding the Qualifiers a difficult proposition with one team through after three attempts with very disappointing displays from our Jimmy Bruen & Irish Mixed Foursomes Teams both failing to qualify by some distance on a more positive note the Pierce Purcell Team Qualified third in difficult playing conditions at Kilrea and will now play Gracehill Golf Club in round 1 of the Match Play at Kilrea with the match scheduled for Sunday 31st May 2015.

After independent assessment of our course and facilities, we are proud to have been awarded the Northern Ireland Tourist Board Quality
and Assurance Mark.
